A black bear, reported to be roaming the Comstock neighborhood in Fruita has been killed by law enforcement.

According to the Fruita Police Department's Facebook Page, just after 10:30 pm Sunday (July 27,) the Fruita Police Department came in contact with the bear in the vicinity of North Cherry Street and W. Robinson. The animal was destroyed. No details were given concerning the method.

The police statement says authorities believe it is the same bear that has been spotted in recent days, based on ear tags found on the bear. However, dispatch reportedly has received reports of another bear in the area, and residents are cautioned to be on the look out.

Reaction on the Fruita Police Department's Facebook page was largely in support of the actions taken to euthanize the bear, although some believe the bear could have been re-located.

Meanwhile, the Associated Press reports a bear in Aspen  injured a woman over the weekend when it took a swipe at her. That bear, if caught, also faces elimination.
