It looks like the 'Batman vs. Superman' casting rumors are true! After various reports and speculations that Wonder Woman would be joining Batman and Superman in director Zack Snyder's 'Man of Steel' follow-up, the character has been confirmed and actress Gal Gadot has been cast in the role!

Warner Bros. announced Wednesday that Gadot of 'Fast Five' and 'Fast and Furious 6' landed one of the lead female roles in 'Batman vs. Superman,' that of Wonder Woman herself, Diana Prince. Other contenders for the part were Olga Kurylenko of 'Oblivion' and Elodie Yung of 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation.'

Said Zack Snyder of the casting:

Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.

While the extent of Wonder Woman's involvement in 'Batman vs. Superman' is still a mystery, with some reports suggesting she'll be more of a supporting character, this is a major move towards the inevitable 'Justice League' movie, which will see some of the most iconic heroes of the DC universe team up onscreen.

Gadot joins the cast that already includes Henry Cavill returning to his 'Man of Steel' role as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane. 'Girls' star Adam Driver is reportedly also in contention for the part of Batman's sidekick/successor, Nightwing (aka Robin). In addition, Variety reports that Callan Mulvey of 'Zero Dark Thirty' is eyed for the villain role, and that additional members of the 'Justice League' are reportedly planned to make appearances, including The Flash.

'Batman vs. Superman' is slated for release on July 17, 2015.
