Ben Affleck’s ‘The Accountant’ Is Getting a Sequel

I kind of liked The Accountant. It was goofy, sure, but it had a kind of absurd purity as well. It “has a bit more interesting stuff creeping around its edges than a lot of the superhero movies based on established properties,” I wrote in my review for ScreenCrush. The mythology was engrossing, and the action scenes were surprisingly good. If The Accountant had come out 10 years ago, before I had kids and I gave up all my free time forever, I could easy envision a scenario where I watched it over and over on basic cable. It’s the perfect TNT movie.

Here’s Your First Look at Pixar’s Experimental Short ‘Smash and Grab’

Every time Pixar releases another sequel like Monsters University or Cars 3, a hefty portion of fans wring their hands and declare that the studio is past its prime or lost its edge. And there’s probably a certain amount of truth to the idea that Pixar is more about extending franchises than creating new one (although they’ve still pumped out a fair amount of new movies lately, like The Good Dinosaur, Brave, and Inside Out, which might be the best Pixar production ever).

Watch a Supercut of Every Example of Product Placement in Michael Bay’s Movies

If I had to pick the most egregious example of product placement ever, I would nominate the scene from Transformers: Age of Extinction, when the entire movie stops to examine the wreckage of a crash involving an alien spaceship and a Bud Light truck. The camera pans across a street littered with Bud Light bottles; then Mark Wahlberg picks one up, cracks it open, and takes a healthy swig. And while he’s shilling beer, there’s a second product placement in the background; just over his shoulder, very much in focus, is a giant Goodyear Tires sign.

Watch the Cast of ‘Dodgeball’ Reunite for Charity (and Dodgeball)

We never got a sequel to Dodgeball, the 2004 underdog sports comedy starring Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller as opponents in an epic dodgeball tournament. The last update on a possible 2 Dodge 2 Ball came four years ago, when screenwriter Clay Tarver was reportedly tapped to write a screenplay for a potential follow-up. Four years later, we still have nothing to show for his efforts.

Corrine Issues Statement About ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ Incident

With allegations and rumors still flying in the wake of the incident on the set of Bachelor in Paradise, one of the two parties involved has issued a public statement. Here is what Corrine Olympios has to say about the alleged sexual encounter she had with another contestant, DeMario Jackson, which was apparently captured on cameras and was alarming enough to eventually shut down production of the show and launch an investigation into the production’s “misconduct” (via TMZ):

‘The Mummy’ Review: A Dark Beginning for a New Cinematic Universe

Tom Cruise is an analog man in a digital world. A master showman, he seems to understand better than almost all of his peers that no amount of computer-generated imagery can replace the simple thrill an audience gets seeing a real person do something incredible. For over 100 years, this has been one of the fundamental appeals of cinema: Watching an actor perform an impossible (and sometimes stupidly dangerous) physical act. There is no length Cruise won’t go to for our entertainment. Even when his movies are bad, Cruise still gives 110 percent, still provides at least a few mind-boggling stunts to enjoy.

This ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Behind-the-Scenes Video Shows How Silly Dan Stevens Looked on Set

When special effects do their job, they create an illusion so seamless we forget we’re looking at something that’s not really there. The Beast in Disney’s hit live-action retelling of Beauty and the Beast is such an impressive work of motion-capture technology that it can be easy to overlook the amount of effort, energy, and looking incredibly stupid in a giant gray unitard required to turn Dan Stevens into a feral creature.

‘Baywatch’ Review: This Might Actually Be Worse Than the TV Show

One of the least funny running jokes in the new Baywatch movie — which is really saying something because there are a lot of unfunny running jokes in the new Baywatch movie — involves these lifeguards constantly inserting themselves into all sorts of situations that fall well beyond their jurisdiction. They refer to laughable old cases that have nothing to do with rescuing drowners, a nod to the old Baywatch TV show that serves as the film’s source material and chief target. But the case the takes up most of the film’s inexplicably expansive runtime (116 minutes! For a Baywatch movie!) is just as absurd, with the lifeguards trying to bring down a drug ring and real-estate swindle centered around their Southern California beach. Ha ... ha?
