On this day in rock history, Frank Zappa released Weasels Ripped My Flesh, the second album credited to the Mothers of Invention since their breakup in 1969. The 1970 album is made up of various live recordings and improvisational jams by the group going all the way back to 1967. Among the songs on the LP is the fan favorite "My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama."

Also on Aug. 10, Paul and Linda McCartney were arrested in Sweden in 1972 for possession of weed. They didn't serve any jail time for the offense, settling instead for a $2,000 fine and inspiration for one of Paul's best solo songs: "Band on the Run."

On this day, the Red Hot Chili Peppers released their debut album (in 1984) and Billy Joel put out his final album of pop songs, River of Dreams, in 1993. And happy birthday to Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson, who was born on this day in 1947.
