I was feeling good about the Denver Broncos' chances of beating the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. Then I read in USA Today the one reason why the Chargers could very likely beat the heavily favored  Broncos and send them packing early, for the second straight year.

This is so weird, but it's true.

In each of the last four years, the team that the Philadelphia Eagles have played in their home opener has gone on to win the Super Bowl that season. Starting in 2009 the list includes the Saints, Packers, Giants, and last year, the Ravens. Guess who the Eagles played this year in their home opener? Yes, indeed, the San Diego Chargers.

But, surely this is just some strange coincidence. There can't be anything to it, can there be? There is no way that this strange occurrence  could happen five consecutive years, right?

Could this be the Chargers' year?  Are the starts aligned for the Bolts rather than the Broncos? They've already beaten the Broncos once this year, and the game was in Denver. The Broncos' defense has been shaky most of the season, despite the potent Peyton Manning-led offense. Yes, the Chargers barely got into the playoffs this year, but the fact is, they are a team that was hot down the stretch. Given the Broncos' history in home playoff games in which they are heavily favored, a Charger win would not in any way be shocking.

I am not quite ready to concede this game to San Diego, however. Upon further review, I discovered that  in the Chinese Zodiac, this is the Year of the Horse, beginning January 31st. That is great news for the Broncos! - or the Colts.
