It was bound to happen – it was just a matter of time. When it comes to the most valuable brands in the world, Coca-Cola is no longer number 1. The honor now goes to APPLE.

According to a news story in the New York Times, a report released Monday from Interbrand labels Apple as the new most valuable brand in the world. Coca-Cola, in the meantime, has fallen to number 3.

Since the most valuable brand reports began in 2000, this is the first time that Coca-Cola has not been number 1.

According to the New York Times, the 2013 report begins: “Every so often, a company changes our lives, not just with its products, but with its ethos. This is why, following Coca-Cola’s 13-year run at the top of Best Global Brands, Interbrand has a new No. 1 — Apple.”

The Interbrand report estimates the value of the Apple brand at $98.3 billion, up 28 percent from the 2012 report. The value of Coca-Cola rose by 2 percent to $79.2 billion.

The Interbrand report shows the following items as the five (5) Best Global Brands of 2013:

  1. Apple
  2. Google
  3. Coca-Cola
  4. I.B.M.
  5. Microsoft
