It’s hard to believe that playoffs for high school football is set to begin in three weeks, which makes standings in the Colorado high school football poll even more important.

In the Associated Press Colorado high school football poll for the week of October 6, the top seven teams in Class 5A remain the same as last week, with Valor Christian remaining on top. Valor Christian struggled this past week to stay on top, barely winning last Friday’s game against Eaglecrest 23-21.

In Class 4A, last week’s top three teams – Pine Creek, Fort Collins and Montrose – remain as the top teams. Greeley West moved up four places to No. 4, while last week’s No. 4 team Windsor dropped down to No. 7.

Like Class 5A, Class 3A saw no changes in the top seven teams. Lutheran remains as the No. 1 team, Rifle is at No. 3 and Delta is at No. 6. Glenwood Springs moved up a couple spots to No. 8. Palisade received votes this week, but did not make it into the top 10.

In Class 2A, the top five teams from last week remain the same, with Brush, Kent Denver and Strasburg as this week’s top three teams. Gunnison moved up a spot to No. 8, and Montezuma-Cortez broke into the top 10 this week at No. 10.

In Class 1A, Paonia, Buena Vista and Resurrection Christian remain the top three teams. Limon rose two spots to No. 4 and Meeker remains at No. 5. Last week’s No. 4 team, Burlington, dropped to No. 9 this week. Cedaredge rose to No. 8, and Hotchkiss received votes this week but did not make it into the top 10.

One interesting note about Class 1A – four teams tied for the tenth spot in the AP poll. The teams are Salida, Wray, Crowley County and Monte Vista.

In Class 8-Man, Dayspring Christian, Norwood, Springfield, Caliche and Akron remain the top five teams in this week’s poll.

And in Class 6-Man, Arickaree Woodlin, Eads and Peetz remain the top three teams.
