What would happen if you combined the Jackass crew and their usual collection of self-destructive shenanigans with a more conventional narrative feature? The first trailer for Action Point has your answer — with a little Bad Grandpa and a dash of “inspired by true events” thrown in for good measure.

Johnny Knoxville makes his return to the big screen in the new comedy, which appears to be loosely based on Action Park — the notorious New Jersey theme park that opened in 1978 and operated some “incredibly dangerous” attractions (according to our editor-in-chief Matt Singer, who actually visited the place) before eventually closing in 1996. The park, which featured one of the first American water parks, serves — at least in part — as the basis for Action Point (could they not secure the rights for the real place?), in which Knoxville, in full grampy makeup, regales his grandson with the true story of how he ran a wild and crazy theme park back in the day. (The old person makeup is really terrible in comparison to the Bad Grandpa stuff.)

If you’re hoping for a full Jackass reunion, you might not want to hold your breath: It looks like Chris Pontius, aka Party Boy, is the only other crew member who was willing to participate in the film — which clearly features the boys actually performing some of their signature stunts and pranks.

Everyone’s favorite daredevil Johnny Knoxville is back to his hilariously painful antics in the upcoming comedy ACTION POINT. Knoxville stars as D.C., the crackpot owner of a low-rent, out-of-control amusement park where the rides are designed with minimum safety for maximum fun. Just as D.C.’s estranged teenage daughter Boogie comes to visit, a corporate mega-park opens nearby and jeopardizes the future of Action Point. To save his beloved theme park and his relationship with his daughter, D.C. and his loony crew of misfits risk everything to pull out all the stops – and stunts – making for another wild ride from the star of BAD GRANDPA and JACKASS.

Action Point was directed by Tim Kirkby, known best for his work on great TV shows like FleabagVeep, and Look Around You. The film was written by Knoxville with David Krinsky and John Altschuler (Silicon ValleyKing of the Hill) — and though the trailer doesn’t look like much beyond what we’ve come to expect from Knoxville & Co., the talent behind the scenes guarantees we’ll be checking this one out when it hits theaters on June 1.
