Saturday morning will be a busy start to the weekend for the Colorado National Monument as 2,200 bicyclists participating in the Tour of the Moon take a ride on Rimrock Drive.

The Tour of the Moon, a recreational ride with 41 and 62-mile rides which include the Colorado National Monument will start and end at Two Rivers Convention Center in downtown Grand Junction at 7:30 a.m. September 29. The 2018 ride is limited to 2,200 riders and is so popular that it is completely sold out.

The Monument will be open during the ride with the exception of the westbound lane which will be closed to all traffic except bicyclists. Other visitors and spectators are asked to use the Fruita entrance during the closure Saturday morning.

Residents should be aware there will be significant bicycle traffic downtown. Some riders are expected to explore the city on their bikes, so other areas may see a higher number of cyclists on the streets.

The public is invited to join the riders downtown for post-ride activities including live music, beer garden, and a bicycle product expo.
