2015 Super Bowl Could be Changing Locations [UPDATE!]

The Denver Broncos are hoping to be playing a football game next February in Arizona, the designated site for the 2015 Super Bowl. However, the NFL has raised the possibility of moving the Super Bowl out of Arizona.

The state of Arizona is considering a law that would allow businesses owners to deny service to gay couples on religious grounds. This is not setting to well with the National Football League which emphasizes "tolerance and inclusiveness, and prohibit discrimination based on age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or any other improper standard."

Mike Florio on his Pro Football Talk website says ultimately the decision to move the Super Bowl would be up to the owners, but says the NFL is monitoring the situation in Arizona very closely.

Regardless of one's religious beliefs, it seems absurd that somehow it would be okay for a business to refuse service to someone based upon their sexual orientation. It seems equally absurd that "religious" reasons would be grounds for refusing service.

If the state of Arizona would actually do the unthinkable, and pass such a law, we would applaud the NFL  if they would in fact move the nation's largest sports spectacle to a different location. The NFL has long  fought an on-going battle to stamp out discrimination and racism among it's ranks. A move such as this would re-affirm it's commitment to making the league a tolerant, and discrimination-free place to work.

UPDATE: CNN Reports that late Wednesday, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer vetoed the legislation after weighing both sides of the argument.

You may or may not agree with the alternative lifestyle, but doing business with someone should not have anything to do with whether or not you agree with their lifestyle choice. This is America, the land of the free -- and the equal.
