Michigan State, Connecticut, Kentucky and Michigan each advanced to the Elite Eight of the 2014 NCAA men's basketball tournament on Friday night. Here's a recap of the action:

(4) Michigan State 61, (1) Virginia 59

Branden Dawson had 24 points and 10 rebounds, and fourth-seeded Michigan State edged top-seeded Virginia, 61-59, in the 2014 NCAA tournament's East Region semifinals in New York on Friday night. The Spartans (29-8) advanced to face Connecticut in the regional final on Sunday.

After trailing by four earlier in the second half, Michigan State surged ahead on Travis Trice's 3-pointer with 9:13 left and never relinquished the lead. Virginia knotted the game at 51, but Adreian Payne's 3-pointer with 1:31 left put the Spartans ahead to stay. Joe Harris and Malcolm Brogdon had 17 points apiece for the Cavaliers (30-7).

(7) Connecticut 81, (3) Iowa State 76

DeAndre Daniels had 27 points and 10 rebounds, and seventh-seeded Connecticut beat third-seeded Iowa State, 81-76, in the 2014 NCAA tournament's East Region semifinals in New York on Friday night. The Huskies (29-8) advanced to face Michigan State in the regional final on Sunday.

Daniels and teammates Shabazz Napier and Ryan Boatright dominated the game, pushing UConn out to a 36-26 lead at halftime. The Huskies extended their lead in the second half, but the Cyclones' DeAndre Kane and Monte Morris helped narrow UConn's final margin of victory. Dustin Hogue led Iowa State (28-8) with 34 points.

(8) Kentucky 74, (4) Louisville 69

Julius Randle scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as eighth-seeded Kentucky rallied from an early deficit to beat Louisville, 74-69, in the 2014 NCAA tournament's Midwest Region semifinals in Indianapolis on Friday night. The Wildcats (27-10) will face Michigan in the regional final on Sunday.

Louisville bolted out to an 18-5 lead in the first half, but Kentucky clawed its way back, finally taking the lead, 67-66, on Alex Poythress' free throw with 1:27 to play.

After Russ Smith put the Cardinals back ahead 68-67, Aaron Harrison's 3-point shot with 39 seconds left gave the Wildcats the lead for good. Harrison and Dakari Johnson each had 15 points for Kentucky. Smith paced Louisville (31-6) with 23 points.

(2) Michigan 73, (11) Tennessee 71

Jordan Morgan had 15 points and seven rebounds, and second-seeded Michigan held off a furious second-half rally by 11th-seeded Tennessee to win, 73-71, in the 2014 NCAA tournament's Midwest Region semifinals in Indianapolis on Friday night. The Wolverines (28-8) advanced to face Kentucky in the regional final on Sunday.

The Volunteers trailed by as many as 15 points in the second half before closing within 72-71 with under 15 seconds to play. Tennessee had an opportunity to take the lead, but Jarnell Stokes was called for a charge on Morgan with six seconds left. Jordan McRae scored a game-high 24 points for the Volunteers (24-13).
