Cliff Richard may be best known for "Devil Woman'. After all, it was his biggest hit, reaching #6 in the U.S. in 1976. But, there's a lot more to Cliff Richard, and his 73rd birthday seems like the perfect occasion to spotlight some of  his great music. For starters, you may not have known that his very first chart hit was a movie song he sang with the Drifters in 1959 for Serious Charge starring Anthony Quayle. Living Doll reached #1 on the British charts but only peaked at #30 in the U.S. Still he was well on his way to making his mark in the U.S.

According to the official Cliff Richard website, on June 16, 1966 he appeared at a Billy Graham Evangelistic Crusade speaking openly of his Christian faith. His fans feared it was the end of his career as a pop star, but it wasn't. Through the years he has successfully continued to do both pop and gospel music and managed to have chart hits in four different decades.

It was the summer of '76 when  Devil Woman   hit the charts and really put Cliff on the map in the U.S. That top 10 smash paved the way for more legitimate U.S. hits for the British star, including the top 10 hits We Don't Talk Anymore, Dreaming, and Suddenly,  the top 20 duet with Olivia Newton-John for the movie Xanadu. Suddenly was followed up by another top 20 hit in 1981, my favorite Cliff Richard tune, A Little in Love.

Today, Cliff Richard continues to travel, perform, is heavily involved in charity  work, and has  just released his 100th album. Talk about staying power!  So, let us say, Happy Birthday, Cliff, and thanks for four decades of great music!
